Arlington Volleyball Club U17/18 Head Coach Guery Guzman
has over 13 years of experience coaching men's, women's, boys', and girls' volleyball.  In 2008/9, he was the head coach of the AVC U17/18 team, and in 2007/8 he was the co-head coach of the AVC U16 team, leading the team to a regional tournament gold medal.  He also has a CAP I coaching certification through USA Volleyball (USAV).

In 1995, Guery coached for the Arlington International Volleyball Club, where he was mentored by its founder, who played on the Argentinean Olympic Volleyball Team.  Guery ran this club for five years, fielding three teams.  His boys' team finished fourth of 32 teams in USAV tournament play.  He also coached men's and women's USAV teams from 1997 through 1999.  From 2004  through 2006, Guery coached middle and high school girls through the
Arlington County Parks
and Recreation Department.

Originally from
Bolivia, Guery played outside hitter on the Bolivian national youth team, placing fifth at the Pan American games.  After moving to the United States, he played both setter and outside hitter in USAV Open beach and USAV AA and AAA indoor volleyball competition.  A true volleyball fanatic, when he hurt his right shoulder, he learned to hit with his left hand to continue playing.  He works for Arlington Public Schools with the Pathways Program at the Career Center, and lives with his wife and two children in Woodbridge, Virginia.

Arlington Volleyball Club U17/18 Assistant Coach Stephanie Shemanski coached the 2009 Yorktown High School junior varsity volleyball team.  She played Division III volleyball at Marymount University from 2003 through 2007 (mainly as a middle blocker with some outside hitting and right side hitting experience).  Her Marymount team was the 2006 Season Champion with a 7-0 Capital Athletic Conference record.  At Marymount in 2007 she received both the Coach’s Award and the Capital Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete Award.

Stephanie was a middle blocker on Reading (Pennsylvania) Central Catholic High School's 2001 and 2002 District 3A Champion team. She also played MB, OH, and RH on Reading's X-Court club volleyball team.  She has a B.S. in Health Fitness Management-Health Science, including Human Performance.  She works as a Health/Wellness Program Coordinator.

Arlington Volleyball Club U16 Head Coach Brittanie Behar begins her seventh year coaching club volleyball this year, her fifth season with AVC.  As the Yorktown High School varsity coach since 2006, she has led the Patriots to four winning seasons, including two first-place National District finishes and a 2009 top-ten ranking in Virginia's Northern Region.  Named 2006 National District Coach of the Year, Brittanie's AVC U17/18 teams won the Silver Division at the 2007 Shamrock Invitational and the Silver Division at the 2008 Hampton Roads Invitational.  She began her volleyball coaching career in Indiana, where she coached for the COA Volleyball Club in 2005.  After moving to the Washington D.C. area, she coached for the Metro-American Volleyball Club in 2006.

Brittanie played club and high school volleyball in Michigan, making second team All State.  Her club team placed fifth at Nationals in 2000.  As a 4-year starter and scholarship athlete at NCAA Division I Indiana State University, Brittanie played middle hitter, missing only three matches in her entire career.  During her tenure at Indiana State, Brittanie was second in all-time hitting percentage, fourth in all-time kills, second in career high hitting percentage for a single match, second all-conference in 2001, all freshman team, and conference MVP in 2001.  She made seven all-tournament teams (including one as MVP).  In 2004, Brittanie earned her Bachelor of Science degree and is currently pursuing her master’s degree and teaching certification from Marymount University.

Arlington Volleyball Club U16 Assistant Coach Yanne' Givens has been coaching volleyball for the last 5 years, 4 with AVC.  Yanne' also has been the assistant varsity volleyball coach for Yorktown High School for the last 3 seasons.  She received a volleyball scholarship to Division I Howard University and is currently working on her master’s degree in broadcast journalism at the University of Maryland.

Arlington Volleyball Club U15 Head Coach Ashley Bright brings 4 years club coaching experience to AVC, 3 years as co-head coach for the Phoenix, Arizona, Desert Diamonds, coaching 12's, 14's and 16's, and 1 year as assistant 16's coach with the Peoria, Arizona Volleyball Club.  She also just renewed her CAP I coaching certification through USA Volleyball (USAV).

From 2004 through 2007 she played middle blocker as a four-year starter at Division II Grand Canyon University in the NCAA Pac-West Conference.  She holds a Grand Canyon school record for career blocks and achieved All-Conference Honors and All-Tournament Honors.  Ashley played middle blocker at Verde Valley Vertical Volleyball Club from 2001 through 2003 and at Mingus Union High School from 2000 through 2003.

Arlington Volleyball Club U15 Assistant Coach Lindsey Merchant coached club volleyball for FAVOR Volleyball Club in Frederick, Maryland, for 2 years, 1 year as a head coach and one year as an assistant coach.  She played club volleyball in high school in Frederick, Maryland, also for FAVOR, and played on the James Madison University club team.  She works for Booz Allen.

Arlington Volleyball Club U14 Head Coach Daniel Rios is the 2009 Wakefield High School Varsity Coach, and has more than 10 years of experience as a player and coach.  He served as 2008 Freshman coach at South Lakes High School in Reston, and head coach of the Northern Virginia Volleyball Association (NVVA) U16 White team, which medalled several times in 2009.  He has also coached for Southwestern Youth Association.

Daniel is from Peru, and his family plays on the Peruvian National Volleyball Team.  He has played at OH and setter for volleyball club leagues locallyand in Venezuela and Peru.  He has also participated in FIVB (Fédération Internationale de Volleyball) competitions.  He has completed numerous coaching clinics in Peru, Puerto Rico, and  the United States, including the George Mason University Coaches Clinic, the Aldis Berzins (1984 gold medal Olympic team) Coaches Clinic, and the American Sport Education Program Coaches Clinic.  Daniel is USAV IMPACT certified, USAV CAP I certified, and a Virginia High School League certified coach.  He is currently working on a Gold Medal Squared coaching certification.

Arlington Volleyball Club U14 Assistant Coach Kim Lundberg coached the 2009 Wakefield High School freshman volleyball team.  A lefty, she played RS at Division III Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  Kim began playing volleyball at the age of 15.  As a sophomore at Randolph High School in San Antonio, Texas, she made the varsity team, and made 2nd team all-district as a sophomore and 1st team all-district as a junior and senior.  During her senior year of high school she was ranked 5th in the city of San Antonio for most aces.  This is her first year playing on a USAV A-level Adult Team where she plays RS/DS. 

Setter Coach Valery Soto coached the AVC U15 team in the 2005/6 season, taking them to the Gold Division of the Regional Championships, where the team made it out of pool play.  She coaches U15 again in 2006/7, then was the AVC U16 Co-Head Coach for 2007/8.  She also coached girl's juniors in Connecticut for two years before relocating to the Washington, D.C. area in 2004.  Although Valery had a baby last February, she enjoys coaching so much that she served as the assistant varsity coach at Wakefield High School in 2008 and 2009.

Valery was a 4-year starting setter for NCAA Division II St. Michael's College in Vermont.  As a teenager, Valery played club volleyball for Baystate Juniors, helping her teams advance to national tournaments two times in her 4-year tenure.  As captain her senior year, Valery led her high school team to a state championship and was named MVP of her high school league.

Valery has completed her CAP I coaching certification through USAV and served as a
University of Connecticut Elite Camp Coach in 2003.  She has her Master of Science degree in Nutrition and works as a nutritionist for the USDA.

Arlington Volleyball Club Recruiting Advisor Beth Ann Wilson has served as the Marymount University Head Women's Volleyball Coach since 1993.  She is responsible for the program's most successful season in 2005, posting a 21-10 record. She has coached six seasons with 20-plus wins and totals over 200 career wins.  In 2004, Wilson was named Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Co-Coach of the Year.  

She has completed her CAP II coaching certification and is active in the CAC and the American Volleyball Coaches Association, where she serves on the All-Region Selection Committee.  A scholarship athlete at the College of William and Mary, Coach Wilson was recruited to play middle hitter.  She was a two-year captain and all-conference selection during her junior and senior years, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Religion in 1989.  Coach Wilson began her volleyball career at La Jolla High School, where she was named the 2A California Interscholastic Conference (CIF) Player of the Year.
